Curriculum

Reading:
This week, we have been launching our reading workshop.  Students are building stamina with read to self time and we are learning about our classroom library and how to pick good books for us.  Next week, we will continue to launch our reading workshop by learning about our listen to reading station and other parts of our reading workshop.

Book Baggies:
We will be starting book baggies soon.  If you are interested in helping us to put our book library together, we would love volunteers.  Please let me know if you are interested.

Writing:
As writers we learned about what a personal narrative is.  In addition, we've been generating story ideas and learned about watermelon vs. seed stories.
Next week, we will learn more about organizing a personal narrative and then begin writing.

Math:
In math, we've been learning about some tools we can use to help us when we count up and back.  We've learned about a number path, hundreds chart and backwards hundreds chart.  Next week, we will wrap up unit 1 with some number story practice and then take our unit 1 assessment.

IXL Skills - Use these activities as you wish to help your child with the skills we will be working on throughout this first trimester.

Science/Social Studies:
In science, the students have been challenged by a meteorologist to learn about ways to predict the weather.  This week we observed the air outside and saw how air can make things move (wind) and we learned about different types of clouds and how they might help us predict the weather.
